Parental involvement
Phensem PSGB supports parents/primary caregivers through engagements, education and interventions and trainings to empower them and enable them towards involvement with relevant Government, service providers and stakeholders with regard to transition, inclusion and development aspects of persons with disabilities.
The organization also facilitates and works closely with relevant Government/institutions/service providers and communities through advocacy and capacity buildings in order to build parent-stakeholder partnerships in working together in building an inclusive and equitable society for persons with disabilities.
So far, Phensem PSGB has facilitated:
- Build capacity through various inclusive education trainings about 92 teachers and SEN Aides (teacher assistants) from its partner schools. Approximately about 150 children with disabilities enrolled in these schools are benefitted through these trainings.
- Provided trainings to 40 facilitators as well as 11 parents of ECCD going children from 18 ECCDs.
- Provided trainings and empowerment programs to about 150 parents and primary caregivers
- Phensem PSGB was able to introduce Special Educational Needs (SEN) Aides in partner schools
which provided a huge support to the children with disabilities in their learning process and meaningful, inclusive and active participation in all activities of the schools. It also provided huge support to the parents and the teacher alike. So far, about 16 SEN Aides have been trained. This has also helped in providing youths interested in the field with alternative employment opportunities.
- With this firsthand experience of introducing SEN Aides, Phensem PSGB has now been able to recommend and provide valuable feedback to relevant organizations and stakeholders.
- Establish parent-school partnership and linkages between teachers and parents.
